![]() The only purchase we made in the park was ice cream. We took our own lunch and snacks in our car and went out to the car when we were hungry. It was nice to be able to cool off, but if it wasn't included in admission I wouldn't have bothered to pay extra. The only chairs we could find were in the little kids section. The water park was large and very spread out. The wave pool and the river were really crowded and the waits for several of the water slides was about 45 minutes. The amusement park wasn't crowded, but with the 94 degree temperatures the water park was packed. Needless to say, some people were really upset. You just fill out a lost form and they will call you after the park closes if they find it. Every time we went on the FireHawk someone would get off having lost a cell phone, car keys or driver's license. When they say take everything out of your pockets - TRUST THEM. We went on each many, many times over the 2 days. Our favorite rides were the Diamondback roller coaster and the FireHawk. They have several rides that Cedar Point boasts about, but we found them equally good at Kings Island and with out the wait. The longest wait we had was 30 minutes for a roller coaster. The lines weren't too bad, though we are regular attendees of Cedar Point where the lines average an hour to two hours per roller coaster. We spent the morning and early afternoon on the roller coasters and other rides and then cooled off at the water park. Our tickets included admission to the amusement park and the water park. The cost was basically buy a day, get one free. It was a great little campground with a pool (that we never enjoyed because we spent most of our day at the park.) We took advantage of the 2-day discount ticket prices we found on the Kings Island website. It was a 10 minute drive to Kings Island. We drove our RV from near Cleveland, Ohio to Lebanon, Ohio where we stayed at Cedarbrook Campground. Our family of 5 took a 2 day trip to Kings Island the first week in August 2010. ![]() Overall the kids had fun but some only got to ride 2 rides due to the lines. They do have a fast pass for the haunted houses but we learned you can only use it once for each attraction. I would recommend getting the fast pass if you can swing it for the rides. They do sell a fast pass ticket in addition to the regular admission ticket which is as low as $30.00 if you buy 5 or more. We got into a fair amount of haunted houses, and were really impressed with them. By the end of the night there was at least a 3 hour wait for the more popular rides. The complaint I do have is with the crowds.HUGE. The kids enjoyed the meal, but I was disappointed in it. The meal was at a designated time, and includes bbq pork, chicken fingers and hot dogs. We bought the haunt feast tickets which included an all you can eat meal. ![]() After saying last year we would never do it again! We took a group of 16 kids/teens and there were 6 adults. ![]() The most powerful of those competitors is Tesla Inc., which already operates a few hundred fast-charging ports in Minnesota. But utility bills are not taxes and shouldn't be treated as such.Īn Xcel network of charging stations supported by utility ratepayers would also enjoy an unfair advantage over others hoping to compete for market share. ![]() True, public money often pays for a public good that certain taxpayers have no use for, like light rail and highways and schools. A surcharge added to their electric bill to cover the cost of an EV charging network they might never use strikes us as inequitable, even if Xcel follows through on its promise to give them a break on charging fees. Most people who buy energy from Xcel don't have a choice. "Stop using the money of everybody to help a few," demanded one of the commenters at a Monday PUC hearing. That additional charge on consumers' bills is the focus of much of the outrage directed at the company. Xcel would like to thumb a ride from its ratepayers, adding close to $200 million to the electric bills of its Minnesota customers. The Xcel proposal could move Minnesota's goal closer to reality - but the question is not about where to go but how to get there. Hence the attractiveness of Xcel's proposal to build and operate 730 charging stations across the state. Minnesota needs a vast improvement in its supply of fast-charging EV ports to meet its goal of a 20% electric passenger fleet by 2030. Some chargers have been poorly maintained, heaps of plowed snow have barricaded others, and some have been "ICEd" - not a reference to immigration authorities, but EV jargon for being blocked by a car with an internal combustion engine. To hear drivers tell it, too many of the state's existing EV stations are unusable, an unpleasant surprise when a driver has carefully crafted a route that offers charging opportunities. Drivers of electric cars do most of their charging at home, but the purpose of a vehicle is to leave home - sometimes going to places farther away than an EV can travel on a single charge. Minnesota has committed itself to a dramatic increase in the adoption of electric vehicles, but the uncertain availability of charging stations exerts a powerful drag on consumer interest. The proposal's appeal is simple: It would help meet an obvious and immediate need. ![]() Although Xcel's idea merits due consideration, state regulators should be skeptical. The proposal has some potential benefits but significant drawbacks and a host of critics, from the state Commerce Department to the Center of the American Experiment. If only it were possible to harness the wind power being expended to oppose Xcel Energy's proposed network of electric-vehicle charging stations. And given Apple has remained completely tight-lipped on the whole thing, there’s almost no chance to see any improvements on this front.įeingold, however, says they’re already working on further refining how Plexamp displays artwork when playing music on CarPlay. You will be prompted to follow a link and enter a claim code. Once it is ready you can ssh into the Pi as mentioned above. Allow the system some time to resize the file system. Is there anything you can do to fix the missing album art? Not really, as it all comes down to the app you’re using and CarPlay itself. Once you have copied the image to an SD card insert it into the Pi and start it up. More frustratingly, it’s the same data which is used by iOS lock screen, which doesn’t suffer from the issue, which makes me think it’s a CarPlay bug,” he explained a few weeks ago when the problem was first discovered. “ We have limited control over CarPlay, you basically just tell the system ‘hey, use this artwork and artist/album titles,’ and CarPlay itself renders the screen. At least, that’s what Elan Feingold, founder and CTO of Plex, explains. Once it’s downloaded to a Pi and opened, you can play music through a web interface on any web browser on the same local network, or choose the Pi as an output in the Plexamp app on other devices. In other words, it sticks with the previous song art no matter what, and the refresh only happens at random times, very often with a delay of a few minutes.Īt first glance, this seems to indicate there’s a problem with the music app itself, but it doesn’t appear to be the case this time. But things will soon change as a variety of global competitors open European factories in the coming years, including established OEMs (often via joint ventures), battery suppliers as well as European start-ups. With China currently dominating battery cell production, only a handful of manufacturers currently have facilities in Europe. This is changing the production landscape for EV batteries. In China, BEVs are predicted to make up 38% of light vehicle sales in 2030. By 2030, more than half of all light vehicle sales (52%) are expected to be BEVs – almost double that of North America (29%). ![]() While EV adoption is on the rise globally, Europe can expect to see the strongest growth. All in all, we estimate these measures can reduce costs by approximately USD30-40 per KWh. These include increasing the size of modules to reduce the number of modules per pack, and improving manufacturing technology for lower CAPEX and OPEX. This can be supported by larger cell formats and a lower share of non-active materials like cans and current collectors.Īway from cell chemistry and design, there are further ways to reduce costs. The shift towards CAMs with higher nickel content (beyond NCM811) and AAMs with more silicon is expected to boost cell energy density and reduce overall cost per kWh. The largest lever is the improvement of the cell chemistries and design. So how can OEMs and cell manufacturers continue to lower battery costs over the coming years? However, this can only be achieved by further reducing production costs per kWh. The battery market is expected to show 30% CAGR to reach a total annual capacity of more than 3,000 GWh by 2030. In other words, it could potentially literally describe which monkey was your uncle. “While humans are the focus of this study, the method is valid for most living things, from orangutans to bacteria,” explained Wohns. “As the quality of genome sequences from modern and ancient DNA samples improves, the trees will become even more accurate, and we will eventually be able to generate a single, unified map that explains the descent of all the human genetic variation we see today,” Wong said. Their ultimate goal: To produce an all-encompassing map of how everyone around the globe is related to each other. The genome scientists are currently working on making the blueprint even more comprehensive by “continuing to incorporate genetic data as it becomes available.” While undeniably impressive, the unprecedented family tree is just the foundation “for for the next generation of DNA sequencing,” Wong said. ![]() Women discover they were switched at birth 57 years ago after taking DNA test They lived a million years ago in a region estimated to be modern Sudan. The earliest ancestors included in the map are an extinct species of human that predates Homo sapiens. The map also employed location data, allowing scientists to estimate where the common ancestors had lived, and included seminal evolutionary events such as our migration out of Africa, per the study. Per the study, the algorithms “predicted where common ancestors must be present in the evolutionary trees to explain the patterns of genetic variation.” Specifically, the study mix-and-matched data from both modern and ancient human genomes from eight different databases, spanning a total of 3,609 individual genome sequences from 215 populations across the world. The ancient genomes ranged in age from 1,000 to over 100,000, while “the resulting network contained almost 27 million ancestors.” He added, “The power of our approach is that it makes very few assumptions about the underlying data, and can also include both modern and ancient DNA samples.” “While humans are the focus of this study, the method is valid for most living things, from orangutans to bacteria,” explained author Anthony Wilder Wohns. “We can then estimate when and where these ancestors lived.” “Essentially, we are reconstructing the genomes of our ancestors and using them to form a vast network of relationships,” explained lead author Anthony Wilder Wohns, who took on the research as part of his Ph.D. ![]() However, through the new method detailed in the study, researchers can easily match data from multiple sources and incorporate millions of genetic sequences. Until now, genetic cartographers had struggled with devising algorithms to process these massive amounts of data. In layperson’s terms, the comprehensive tree, which appeared as both a research paper and a video, depicts how people around the world are interrelated, like an all-encompassing 23andMe. “This genealogy allows us to see how every person’s genetic sequence relates to every other, along all the points of the genome.” “We have basically built a huge family tree, a genealogy for all of humanity, that models as exactly as we can the history that generated all the genetic variation we find in humans today,” co-author Yan Wong, an evolutionary geneticist at the institute, said in a statement. It also could predict who might be more susceptible to diseases such as COVID-19. ![]() The family tree helps us know more about where and when our human ancestors lived - namely in Africa - the researchers said.
